AZ 2000 HPS Mount

Altazimuthal mount, exclusive 10Micron HPS technology with absolute axis-encoders and high performances motor drives; payload capacity of 50 +35 Kg in dual telescope configuration optional (#1452905 AZ 2000 DT Upgrade Kit)

This mount is the latest version of the AZ2000, an altazimuth mount based on the mechanics of the GM2000 HPS. The AZ2000 HPS is a very versatile research mount, perfect for scientific activities such as satellite tracking, photometric and astrometric measurements, LiDaR laser applications and so on. Due to its altazimuthal design, astrophotography requires a field rotator. With an image field rotator (we recommend the IR90 from Planewave and the Gemini from Optec), "classic" astrophotography with the usual 10 micron precision is also possible.

The standard version allows to assembly the optics to only a side of the mount and is supplied with a short counterweight bar. It’s not necessary to exactly counterbalance the weight of the telescope: using counterweiths for about 50% of your payload to get a sucfficient stable configuration. An option is available for a dual telescope configuration (# 1452905 AZ 2000 DT Upgrade Kit)

The original AZ2000 was also produced in the special “Antarctica” version for the Koldewey Station for Atmospheric Research in NyAlesund on Spitsbergen, which was able to work at extreme low temperatures of -84°C (-119F). Special mechanical and electronic considerations were necessary in order to design and produce this peculiar mount. More information can be found on Baader Planetarium dome map.

ColdTemp-Upgrade for AZ 2000 COMBI mounts is included

Modification package for ext. temperature range to -30°C

Not available for retrofitting existing mounts

Standard cables and greases become brittle and cause severe premature aging when subjected to deep freeze temperatures over longer periods of time. We strongly advise to choose this upgrade package for either AZ3000 or AZ4000 mounts, in case the mechanics and electronics of the mount have to work flawlessly under hard environmental conditions. Please note that this can only be integrated into the mount during master assembly and cannot be upgraded. This treatment would cost many times as much, if it were to be performed on an existing mount that would need to be fully disassembled to the core.

The ColdTemp-package includes:

  • Highest cost low temperature grease for bearings and worm gear (suitable viscosity stretched down to - 60°C)
  • Pre-tension springs on axes and shafts for thermal compensation
  • Integrated Linux PC w. extended XT range survival pack (up to -40°C/specified by the manufacturer)
  • All internal cabling replaced w. high endurance silicon flex cables (internal cable strands are being replaced by low temp copper alloy w. individual high strength silicone mantling)
  • Absolute encoders modified for -40°C continuous operation
  • Heavy duty test in cold chamber for several days

WiFi adaptation is not available in conjunction with the ColdTemp package!
